The Pasty.com are looking for a news writer for our soon-to-be-launched website.

You’ll be finding news stories from various sources and rewriting them for our news section. It’s not hard work, but you will need to know how to write a news story and how to spell.

You will be expected to write 10-20 short news stories a week.

If you’ve got experience that’s great – whether it’s for the New York Times or your school paper – but it’s not essential. We’re happy to give guidance about how to structure a news story to the right person, but you must be able to write accurately in English without mistakes.

To start off with this is on a WORK EXPERIENCE basis only.

However, the site is a commercial site (an online shop) and we don’t want to rip you off. So once we start making some money on a regular basis we’ll be able to offer you a reasonable amount of pay – though it’s unlikely to be huge. This is estimated to be after about 6 months but it could be sooner or later – depending on how things go.

This is a part-time gig and shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes to half an hour a day.

We think this gig would be best for someone in their teens or early 20s who wants to be a writer or journalist to gain experience and cuttings, however we’re happy to consider anyone. You’re not going to win any Pulitzer prizes for your work on this site, but you will gain commercial experience and it should tighten your writing skills.

Location’s not an issue as long as you can write well in English.

To apply

Send an email to: intern@thepasty.com

Email us with a few sentences about yourself, who you are and what experience you have, if any (please make sure you write as accurately as you can – we need to see you’re not going to make basic mistakes).

If you have any cuttings already email 1 or 2 into the body of the email. Short news stories will do. If you don’t have any published cuttings it would help if you could write a very short news story on any recent event just to show us you have a basic understanding of how a news story works. It doesn’t have to be perfect – but I’d like to see you’re vaguely aware of what a news story is, at least.
